AYACHAK ASHRAMA and Akhanda Mandali

Sri Sri Swami Swarupananda Paramhansa Deva was love and compassion personified. His glorified desire for the good of all and evil of none , his spirit of reverence for the essential of purity and goodness of the inner nature of man, his strong faith in brightness of the future of mankind and his genuine and unpretending modesty made him Babamoni or the most loving eternal father of one and all.

More a social reformer than a religious preacher, Sri Sri Babamoni started morality campaign as early as 1914for fighting out the malignancies affecting the society. An extra – ordinary orator , a great organiser , a famous writer and a tireless worker, he singled out morality campaign as his way of serving the society and he continued with his mission throughout his long life. This very noble movement is gaining momentum everyday and is now being carried out by the Ayachak Ashram founded by him various Akhanda Mandalis and his innumerable disciples and admirers throughout the country and abroad.

At the time when almost everyone whether an individual or an institution – runs after raising subscriptions in the name of serving people , Sri Sri Babamoni, in tune with the ideals of the Upanishads- “nayamatma balahinen labhya, bhikshayam naiba naibacha” was the rarest exception who proclaimed that Abhiksha (non-begging) would be the guiding principle of his spirit of service. Himself practically coining the word , he explained that abhiksha is complete reliance on God, reliance on the strength and resources which he has already deposited on man. Not to beg, not to speak out regarding want , not even to pray mentally for something to somebody is the strict discipline for those embracing the ideology of Abhiksha. Himself pursuing it throughout his life , Sri Sri Babamoni inspired all others to follow this line. On this principle of Abhiksha has grown around the Ayachak Ashram which has now spread its branches in Benaras, Kolkata Guwahati, Agartala, Udaipur, Jharkhand and other parts of the country.

The Multiversity, The Institution founded by Sri Srimat Swami Swarupananda Paramhansa Dev

The Multiversity was established, by His Divine Grace Sri Srimat Swami Swarupananda Paramhansa Dev in the year 1973-1974 and registered under the West-Bengal Societies Act, 1961, vide Registration No. S\13107 of 1973-74 dated 15th June, 1975 solely for the benefit of the public in general and the students and inmates of The Multiversity. In particular, the aims and objects are the advancement of the socio-economic condition of the people at large in all directions with the limited resources of the institution. Established at Pupunki – a remote and unknown village in the then District of Manbhum, now Bokaro, in the State of Jharkhand.

As distinct from a University, ‘The Multiversity’ so named by Sri Sri Babamoni is an extremely unique educational institute.

The Multiversity has ushered in a new era in this horizon, mainly in the field of education and agriculture. The Multiversity opened a High-School of final standard, where the students of the neighbouring villages are getting education at free of cost. However, for student hailing from distant places and other States viz. West Bengal, Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura etc. provision of Hostel arrangements within the premises of The Multiversity has been made. The students are required to bear the minimum food charges only – other charges like tuition fees, seat rent, electricity etc. being borne by The Multiversity itself. It may be claimed that all the matriculates of the adjoining five (5) villages – Pupunki, Sialgajra, Dwarika, Kumri and Kalapathar for the last few years owe their success to The Multiversity alone. This has resulted in improvement of the economic conditions of their families as also upliftment of their moral standard.

To uplift the morals of the people and to make them conscious about cleanliness and hygiene, the students and the teachers of The Multiversity arranged local meeting, picture exhibition and seminars in the villages at regular intervals, without hindering their regular course of studies and explained in details to the people the effect of morality, moral character and cleanliness in daily life. In fact, the sole purpose behind organizing such meetings is to inculcate in the minds of the youth of the country at large, the value of Self-reliance and Brahmacharyya. For The Multiversity belives that whatever may be the philosophy of any person he cannot really do any good to the society or to the nation unless he attempts sincerely to build his own character in the prime of his youth. Therefore, in line with noble principles of its founder, His Divine Grace Sri Srimat Swami Swarupananda Paramhansa Dev, The Multiversity has the cause of morality and character building among the youth of the country without making any distinction as regards caste, language and religion. All expenditure incurred in this connection was/is borne by The Multiversity. The process is still in continuance.

It has been the practice of The Multiversity to distribute special seeds of paddy, flowers and saplings grown in the cultivated land of The Multiversity to the villagers free of cost. Thus The Multiversity could make the people conscious about agriculture, floriculture etc. and topographical and geographical conditions.

It was His Divine Grace Sri Sri Babamoni who made a unique combination of social service with non-begging. In other words it was His Divine Grace, who for the first time in the world set an extraordinarily glaring example showing to the world that social service could be done without going for public charity and Government aid.

Thus, The Multiversity could claim to have opened a new vistas in the daily life of the people of this region without, however, taking a single penny from the people. It is because Abhiksha or non-begging is the principal motto of The Multiversity and “Teach to Learn, Learn to Teach”. “Each for All, All for Each” is the ideal of the students in the matter of carrying out social service.
